The outlet is located just behind the Devi Theatre back gate on Bangaru Naicken street.I knew this place since 2015, but haven’t tried it in a long time. I had some ‘official’ work nearby and once that was over, I wanted to go to this place! I was accompanied by my colleague and it was the 1st time for him.

They open at 9 AM and close at 10.30 PM. That’s a whopping 13.5 hours. Labor law activists’ are you here? Yes you read that right. They work, work, and work. Their menu has only 10 items and you can have all of them right from 9 AM. They usually pack sweets and savouries in boxes / leaves but don’t give the plastic covers. I suppose it costs extra.

Samosa – INR 15/-

The samosas are prepared right in front of the shop and are always piping hot! They are the ones that get vanished immediately. The spicy potato masala filling was good and they give it with 2 chutneys – mint and sweet. This samosa is absolutely worth your money. They were crisp, hot, and of the right size. It was not overly brown which I see in some shops but of the right color. Highly recommended.

CARROT HALWA – INR 25 / 50 grams.

This dish is another crowd puller here. People buy this in kilos and even send them to their relatives. We bought 50 grams and tried it. It was fabulous. Carrot in hindi is called Gajar. So the sweet translates to Gajar ka Halwa. Next time you see a hindi guy selling this, make sure to try it out. It is made of carrots (of course), milk, sugar, ghee, and nuts. The carrots were greatly mashed and sautéed to perfection. The sweet tasted great. This is another must try here.

LASSI – INR 40/-

This is the hero of the story. The shop got its name only after the dish – LASSI. Bombay lassi, as the locals called it and this became the identity of the place. The lassi was thick as hell and it was well mixed with some sugar in the mixer till you get the frothy layer like formation on the top. This is chilled and served with a buttery thick layer of yoghurt. I felt this was a bit overpriced but it is what it is. Do try if you like lassi.

There is another edition called Special lassi where they mix a miniscule part of basandhi with the lassi. That would taste differently and we didn’t want to try it.

We also bought the basandhi (INR 25 / 50 grams) that was good but the quantity was small (I wished it to be a little bigger). Here are some more pictures of the items from the shop.

That’s it for this blog and I hope to see you again in the next blog.
