After hearing some rave reviews about this shop for few years now, I and my friends finally decided to try out the Annachi Appa Kadai. This is a Kaiyendhi Bhavan serving Thirunelveli-style food at an affordable price for about eight years now. Kaiyendi Bhavan is basically a street food cart, that serves all the items at an affordable price with good to great quality and quantity.

From T. Nagar Bus stand take a left towards Venkatanarayana Road and you’ll find the place in a few metres from TTD. This is located exactly to the opposite of the main entrance of Dr. Natesan Park.

For starters they serve – Kaadai fry, Chicken Kothu Kari, Meen Puttu, Ratha poriyal, Eeral, and Boti.

The shop also has Idli, Dosai, Kal Dosai, Mutta Dosai, Parotta, Chapathi and their signature dishes – Aappam and Mutta Aappam (Egg Pancake :P).

The shop serves about ten different side dishes to go with. They have the usual chutney, sambar, and vada curry. If you decide to try something apart from the usual, they have coconut milk, kaara kuzhambu, meen kuzambhu, chicken kuzhambu, mutton kuzhambu and hot aattu kaal paaya (Lamb Trotters Stew).

We tried the following items.

Mutta Aappam (முட்டை ஆப்பம்) – INR 30/-

Aatu Kaal Paaya (ஆட்டுக்கால் பாயா) – INR 90/-

This is the first time I tried the meen puttu and it was an excellent starter. Then came mutta aappam with aattu kaal paaya. It was one of the best I’ve ever tasted and it was worth every penny. Also to finish things off we had half boil and in vaigai puyal’s tone chumma mazhai saaral mathiri thoovuna pepper on top of it. The aappam was soft and tasted like it was home cooked and it is an added bonus if you have strong teeth to chew the aatu kaal. Also don’t miss to try their mallaatta chutney (Groundnut / Peanut). It tastes yum with the aappam and the combo is heavenly.

Half boiled egg – INR 15/-
