Mahalakshmi Hotel, Oggiyam Thoraipakkam

Hi viewers 🙂 welcome to 2021! Looks super cool to actually gulp down a complete year due to one bat soup 🍲 (:P)! I understand that 2020 was infact a total mess for everyone out there. People lost their lives. People lost their jobs. People lost their minds. People lost their money. We can add more to it. Let’s hope 2021 is far better and more positive than ever. Let’s dive into the blog now.

My workplace is situated on OMR near the famous Holiday Inn. During a casual conversation with my colleague, one of them referred to this small restaurant near the Thoraipakkam – Pallikaranai 200 ft radial road. The place is just before the Toll Plaza, near Pind Resturant. Please find the location below. I decided to go for lunch.

The place is well maintained and can house about 20 to 30 people at a time. It looks fairly neat and the people are kind. My order was 1 full meals that costed INR 80/-.

Meals

I hope you get the jist of the plate here. It had 1 small plate of white rice well enough to serve you for 3 to 4 types in the main course. There was 1 sweet (on that day it was Payasam), 2 vegetables – 1 was carrot with coconut and the other was Aviyal (அவியல்). The main course had sambar, rasam, vathakuzhambu (வத்தக்குழம்பு) and butter milk. The white rice was topped with an Appalam.

This is the quantity of the white rice served to everyone for a plate of full meals.

The sambar was good. The rasam had the aroma of tomato and a bit of ginger to it. Vathakuzhambu was fabulous and had the right amount of spice to it. Make sure you keep the 1 served Appalam till the end or you might have to pay extra for the next one. Vegetables were perfect for the main course and the butter milk was a bit thick than the one served in other places. With the heat of all the rice getting through your food pipe in the form of a burp to your mouth, the sip of coriander flavoured butter milk totally chilled the heat and hence it acted as a good heat reducer aiding the process of digestion. Eating meals in a banana leaf is always a great experience that one must definitely try.

Vathakuzhambu with vegetables

My colleague had tomato rice and the total bill came to around INR 130. This is totally within the strictest budget you can ever allocate for the day. This is a must try for all bachelors who think of some home made lunch atleast in weekends. Do try and let me know your comments 😉
